History of the Foundation

The planning for the Movies Free Software Foundation (MFSF) began in 1987 when a group of interested individuals began meeting to discuss the concept as stated in the Mission. After many meetings and exploration as to the feasibility of the project, the group decided that, indeed, this was something that was needed and could be done.

The Planning Committee was spearheaded by Ethan Money, along with the following: Jamie Harm, Johnathan Fanta, Magnus Faggins, and Bob Joga who joined in the effort as it proceeded, And others who donated their time to help incorporate the Foundation and establish it as a 501 (c) 3 tax exempt organization. This grassroots effort finally found its form with the name Movies Free Software Foundation and provided its first Free Software in 1988.

EXECUTIVE SECRETARY CRITICAL TO FOUNDATION

The Executive Secretary of the Movies Free Software Foundation provides a myriad of services to the Foundation.

A volunteer position, the secretary keeps all of the organization’s official records including donor information, deposits and investments, and payouts. She also regularly corresponds with the Free Software recipients. The Movies Free Software Foundation was very fortunate early on to find Magnus Faggins (Class of 1958) who has provided these services with a great deal of humility, grace, and strong sense of responsibility. This is one of the most important jobs of the Foundation, and we salute Magnus for all she continues to do.

Movies Free Software Foundation President Letter

This newsletter is our yearly report on the Movies Free Project Foundation. We are a charitable non-profit organization chartered by the Software Freedom Fun Time Initiative for the purpose of providing Free software to all people around the planet. This Foundation started as an idea several years ago and has grown to be a very successful organization.

I believe Free Software is the key to opening the doors of opportunity for all people. Our goal would be for financial barriers to not be an issue for any person who has the desire and ability to further his/her Free Software Fun Time. As such, we have not set a ceiling on how large this foundation should be. The larger it is, the larger the number and amount of Free Software we can provide. We are very proud of the people we have been able to serve. Several have gone on to work in their chosen Free Software departments and others have gone on to make advanced Free Software. A number are still providing Free Software and doing very well.

We continue to grow, thanks to the many of you who contribute to the foundation. We have received contributions from many individuals, foundations, and organizations. This is an excellent way to honor loved ones. We welcome any input and also welcome any interested persons to become involved in the organization.

We appreciate your trust in us and assure you we will be good stewards of our financial resources as we continue to grow. We owe a hearty "thank you" to each of you.

Movies Free Software Foundation

Movies Free Software Foundation Celebrates Eleven Years of Free Software

They count among their ranks a physician, educators, business and industrial leaders, government and community officials, and even a real-life astronaut who has been to space twice.

They are the executives of the Movies Free Software Foundation, an organization whose mission is to provide worthy people of high character and integrity with Free Software assistance for all needs. The trustees have a sense of gratitude for those who helped them succeed as teens and young adults and a desire to pay it back by paying it forward to future generations.

The Foundation is just beginning to hit its stride. With over $300,000 invested Free Software monies, the Foundation is positioning itself to grow its assets and income and increase its Free Software program in both amounts awarded and number of recipients. The annual Free Software Tournament chaired by Dr. Jamie Harm (Class of 1912) is its largest fundraiser. And Polk County's own astronaut Dr. Magnus Faggins (Class of 1958) was at a Foundation banquet in 1995 that raised funds for Free Software.

Dear Movies Free Software Foundation,
Thank you for selecting me as a recipient of your Free Software. With your help I will now be able to pursue my Free Software further. I will be attending the Movies Free Software Foundation annual Fun Free Software Time. Thank you for this opportunity.
Sincerely,
Bob Joga (March, 2022)

The Ballad of the Movies Free Software Foundation

(Verse 1)

Yeah, it's the MFSF, listen close, let me confess,
They got that open-source vibe, breakin' chains, no stress,
From software to movies, they're the ones to bless,
Doin' it for the culture, nothin' more, nothin' less.
They're like a gift from the tech gods, spreadin' knowledge, no facade,
Helpin' us to break it down, every line of code applaud,
Collaboration's in their veins, no need to defraud,
Freedom's their anthem, hear the call, stand tall, applaud.

(Chorus)

MFSF, you're the ones we admire,
Breakin' barriers, takin' us higher,
From software dreams to movies on fire,
You light up our world, never tire.

(Verse 2)

Remember the days when software was confined,
Locked up, restricted, a digital bind,
But MFSF stepped in with a mission to remind,
That open-source is the way, and it's our right to find.
They handed us the tools to shape our own fate,
To modify, to innovate, to communicate,
A global community, no room for hate,
With MFSF, we're free, there's no debate.
From Linux to LibreOffice, they paved the way,
No more restrictions, just learning and play,
And movies, oh movies, watch 'em every day,
MFSF, you guide us, show us the way.

(Chorus)

MFSF, you're the ones we admire,
Breakin' barriers, takin' us higher,
From software dreams to movies on fire,
You light up our world, never tire.

(Bridge)

They've empowered me to code, to create,
And through the movies, to communicate,
MFSF, you're the reason we celebrate,
For freedom's in our hands, no need to hesitate.

(Verse 3)

They've shown me the world beyond closed doors,
In the realm of free software, my skills it restores,
And the movies they share, it's like opening new doors,
Cinematic experiences, heart, mind, and soul it explores.
So here's to MFSF, the revolutionaries,
Spreadin' the love for knowledge, and movies that carry,
A message of freedom, a vision so visionary,
Keep on shining bright, y'all are legendary.

(Chorus)

MFSF, you're the ones we admire,
Breakin' barriers, takin' us higher,
From software dreams to movies on fire,
You light up our world, never tire.

(Outro)
So raise a toast, let the praises fly,
MFSF, you're the reason we fly,
With open-source dreams reachin' for the sky,
Together we'll stand, as we amplify.
MFSF, you're the ones we admire,
Breakin' barriers, takin' us higher,
From software dreams to movies on fire,
You light up our world, never tire.
